A pullout device is an assembly by which a grouted bolt or anchor is pulled out.  This is done to either design the required bond length of the bolt system or to check the correctness of the installation procedure by the contractor.  The generality of the testing is as follows:

  • putting a seat on the installed rock bolt

  • putting the hollow ram hydraulic jack on the bolt

  • putting the top plate and fastening the nut

  • attaching the jack to the hydraulic pump and pressurising the jack

  • If the load-displacement graph is needed, the axial displacement of the bolt    is recorded by a dial gauge and the load on the bolt is recorded by a     pressure gauge.

Since the bolts installed in different projects have varieties of capacities,        pullout systems are also manufactured with different capacities. All of the parts (apart from standard hydraulic components which are American products) are manufactured in our machine shop.

An example with differnt stages of setup is depicted in the following pictures:

 

The first stage is to fasten the coupling to the bolt

Then the pulling rod is attached to the coupling.

 

The hydraulic jack is put on top of the seat. 

After tightening the nut, the setup is complete and hydraulic pump is connected to the jack.  pressurizing the jack continues till the bolt is loaded up to the test load.

A dial gauge sitting on a separate tripod is sometimes used to record the axial displacement of the bolt while loading.  This information helps the designer to decide on the bolting pattern according to the bond capacity that is obtained during pullout test.
