Sarcheshmeh open pit copper mine is the biggest copper mine in Iran as well as one of the biggest in the world.  The heap leaching operations in Sarcheshmeh open pit mine is one of the peripheral jobs that is done on the ore mineral of the mine.  This is to dump the materials in heaps and pour acid on them it in predefined intervals to solve the copper in the rock.  The copper will then be extracted from the fluid later on by chemical processes.  In this project it is very important to know where the acid level is in the heap to make sure that it is uniformly distributed in the rock.

The distinctive characteristic of this project is in fact the need for a complete acid resistant instrument and also the possibility for the instrument to be adjusted for different acid densities.  Two such instruments were manufactured fully acid resistant and send to the mine for use.  An engineer from the company also attended the mine to train the personnel of the adjustment methods and safe use of the instrument.  The picture of this instrument is shown bellow.
